i have a question about sleep

Hi

Ever since last year i have never been able to successfully wake up on time and on my own except for a handful of moments. over the year I have tried taking small doses of melatonin (because i was new to taking supplements like melatonin) and it helped put me to sleep, but it made it even harder for me to wake up. and eventually my parents began to look down on me for taking supplements in fear that I would become addicted i also tried going to bed earlier, but this is a rare occasion because as a student athlete I had a very busy lifestyle and schedule. and even during this quarantine when sleep should not be something that is limited, I sometimes find myself sleeping through online classes because I couldn’t hear my alarm. which in return enraged my parents. please help I don’t know what to do anymore,

any suggestions and tips would be much appreciated

  • I use two alarms myself ~ one that starts softly and gets to a particular loudness involving a base tone beat first, in conjunction with a second high pith tone shrill beat alarm that is a total nerve grater ~ which work together quite well for the vast majority of the time.

My soft starter alarm is a Polaroid Clock Radio:

And my shrill one is a Westclox alarm clock:

Waking up to desirable music also works with the nerve wrecking alarm, but of course if you can sample some super stimulating and major irritating beats and sounds to wake up to on whatever tech devices ~ that could be a goer maybe?

  • We put tape over the face of our alarm clock so it dims the light and we can't see the time during the night.  It is very easy to obsess about the time and not fall asleep again.
