Mobile phones

Hi everyone, I was wondering if and when you allowed your autistic child to have a mobile phone. My daughter is 11 and currently uses her iPad to message and video call her school friends. As well as communicate when she struggles to express how she is feeling. I have read that children with ASD do benefit from having a mobile phone specially if they struggle with their communication. Have any of you started to let your child have a phone? And what age would you think would be the right age?

  • My goodness, I’d just written an essay, and had to delete it!

My daughter (and son for that matter), has a first phone around 11.  Much later than their peers. I didn’t see the point in them having one until they were going places alone, walking to school, going to after school clubs and sporting events etc

It was more for just us to contact them initially.
