Toilets and bathrooms obsession

Hello. Does anyone else's child love the bathroom and toilets? My son has always liked it since he was a baby. Then he had a year where he would not step into a public rest room as he was scarred of the hand driers. He then got over that fear and his love of public bathrooms has multiplied. He wants to go anywhere and everywhere. Often we take him somewhere "fun" but he plays there for 10 minutes then spends the rest of the time going in and out of the bathroom. I don't mind him going but I would like to reduce this so he can get pm with other stuff. Problem is bathrooms are everywhere so can't escape. Any tips?

  • I've not heard of this myself.

I initially thought perhaps he is seeking alone time? The way you describe it though it doesn't sound like that - do you know why he likes it?

I do suggest thoroughly eductating him on how to stay hygenic, and when age-appropriate, how he can stay safe from grown men who use public toilets for... ah... recreational purposes other than toileting.

  • I don't think it's about alone time. He likes the flushing water and the hand driers. I think it brings him comfort in a way. But as he doesn't speak much it's hard to get any info out of him. Also I don't think he will understand about the naughty men you described :-D I normally go in with him and get him to go to ladies.
