Claiming Personal Independence Payment

I have made a claim for PIP based of the fact of my difficulties with things like making friends, lacking poorly in social skills which have had a big impact on my life in terms of being in longer term employment in recent years, coupled with an anxiety and mental health issues. I have in the last few years while being in and out of work built up lots of debt so perhaps I would have to admit I am not good at using a budget for example and spending within my means.

Is it worth a shot going for the PIP assessment?

Has anyone with autism made a successful claim based on purely mental capacity and no issues physically.

I can do things like cook for myself and I basically live on my own(albeit in my Mums property-who has been away for last four years having to care for elderly relative).

Part of me feels this is all pointless and they would never see me as disabled in any way because physically there is nothing wrong with me really.. thoughts on this would be much appreciated? Should I bother going ahead with the phone call assessment?

  • yeah the assessors goal is not to see if your suitable  for pip, but rather to ensure that you cant get it and to prevent more people claiming. much as the job center staffs goal isnt to ensure you get a job or get welfare or get help but rather to ensure they get people off welfare by any means be it forcing them into and garbage job that isnt suitable or sanctioning or kicking people off it or making it so miserable they leave it by themselves.

  • most losses the gov make due to fraud is more likely done by the minority, the few billionaires that make so much that they personally owe billions in tax that they dont pay. the common joe blog public like you and me can never evade or rip the country off enough to even ever make it 0.0001% of lost government revenue. we are all very insignificant when it comes to government finances.... hell people bang on about their tax paying peoples benefits when they are only on minimum wage and thus minimum wage barely makes enough to even get them above the 12.5k free tax allowance per year to actually start being taxed lol most people who work dont even get taxed because they dont make anywhere near enough and yet complain as if they are being taxed to pay for welfare when they clearly arnt.

  • I have only heard anecdotal evidence that large numbers of people are making false claims.  I've yet to see real evidence of it.  The British press is not honest and makes exaggerated claims.

The UK government estimates that total fraud across the whole of the economy amounts to £73 billion a year. UK government figures for 2012 estimate benefits overpaid due to fraud is £1.2 billion and tax credit fraud is £380 million. So just under £1.6 billion in total; less than 1% of the overall benefits and tax credits expenditure and less than benefits underpaid and overpaid due to error.

  • I did, but I felt pressured into stretching the truth. Do what you must to survive, write a bullet list so you're consistent.

  • Though the Assessor might catch you out and make you say good things about yourself; like what happened me. Plus, the Woman meant to help me couldn't make it, as her son was at the Doctor's.

The fakers will find some way to take advantage, however. The Cute have become Cuter.

  • Yes i have PIP.  You can ask for a paper based review rather than jumping through hoops with an assessment. If you think you have a strong case.
