Autism assessment preparation

Hello All,

I'm going to be having an ASD assessment next week over Zoom with a Psychiatrist.  Before the assessment, I've had to fill out a lot of questionnaires (which I'm happy to do).

Just wanted to know what your experiences were when you had your ASD assessment.  How did you prepare? What questions did they ask you? Can you give me any advice on how to prepare as am a little nervous. I've been making notes here and there, however, mainly on why I think I might have ASD.

Thank you in advance and best wishes

Ruth

  • Hi, I had my first appointment online just a few weeks ago,

One of the important questions to think about what you want to say, is that they asked 'why did you seek assessment at this time?' It may be glaringly obvious to you but preparing a list/answer to that may be useful.

I prepared a massive list of stuff for my assessment and it wasn't all used but it was useful when my brain blanked when they asked a question. Because of that I'd suggest organising your list into broad categories e.g. childhood, social interaction, repetition/routine so that it is easily findable when they ask a question.

    Hope this helped.
