Assistance with reading materials /places to go for help.

Hi everyone!

I hope you can help me.

I've started seeing someone close to where I live in Manchester who's 4 year old has nonverbal autism. She want me to "figure it out as I go" with her kid. I understand where she's coming from, but I don't like that idea so she recommended I come here and talk to you all.

Is there anyone who can give me advice on how to conect and communicate with her kid?

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks everyone!

  • I mean it make a huge difference whether she can’t speak because she lacks the intellect to comprehend speech or because she just lacks the instinct to communicate. If it’s the latter then you could work aspects of communication into things she actively enjoys.

tbh Any attempt to engage her is probably going to have to be centred around the things she enjoys and will do without much prompting. You can then try working other things into activities she enjoys as a way of introducing them to her.
