Covid Testing

Hello I am the mother of a 17 year girl who is non verbal, with severe learning difficulties and ASD. We are hoping to go abroad as a family this summer but need to present a Covid test for each family member in order to fly. She will not tolerate having a swab stick up her nose or back of throat, does anyone know a. if there is a testing alternative? b. what the policy for special needs children who cannot tolerate testing?

  • There are new no-swab saliva tests available privately. They cost £120 and you get the results in 48 hours, I believe. They're government approved and can be used for flying. You simply have to spit into a tube and send it off.

There may be others that are cheaper, but this is the first I found. Just Google 'Covid no swab saliva tests'.

There are exemptions to taking a pre-fly Covid test, and your daughter may fit one of those groups. Have a look at the gov.uk website for more information.
