Hi I have a 14 year old autistic son who is in mainstream school - the big problem we are having is that he's still soiling daily and will not wash or bathe or even brush his hair - his school are not being very helpful at the moment and have now put in a referral to the MASH team as he won't engage in any conversation about this with either me or anyone at the school - the moment I mention anything about it he walks off and refuses to talk about it - it's got to a stage where I dread the phone ringing in case it's the school complaining about him smelling although he doesn't soil at school or if someone has mentioned it to him and he's walked out of class.
I'm not sure what the school think a social services referral will do - if he won't engage with us then he won't engage with them either - I know that it's likely to be a sensory thing but I can't help him because he refuses to even acknowledge it - I'm at my wits end - I'm a single mum so it's all down to me to try to sort out but at the moment I just feel like I'm stuck in the middle trying to placate the school who expect me to come up with solutions and my son who doesn't want to change or even think about it
