parent confused

I am a parent of a 7year old boy, who has been going through the system trying to get a diagnosis to help me understand my childs difficulties. It has been frustrating at times and i am new to everything going on. My little boy had dificulties from the age of 2.5years including oversensitive to noise, bright lights, smell and crowds. It was suggested to me he may have mild autism but i am still coming to terms with this as some days i look at him and realise he is different to my older children when they were this age but it is still difficult to understand if he has this condition. I feel i am left in limbo as all the test he has had have come to nothing specific and am now waiting to see if his uniqueness as they put it is anything more with his mental health team. Are there any other parents going through the same thing? I am at a loss of what to do next. Please reply if poss thanx confused mum.

  • Hi.... Im kind of in the same position.. Have DS 3.5.  First assesment with the pead said possible autistic trates, 2nd assessment 6 months later said could possible just be speech and development delay but the senco at school says its definatly autism. Im in total limbo, as the pead has said one thing and school are saying another.

Its a really difficult place to be when its your child. xx

  • Hi, I'm not a parent but an adult with ASD and Dyspraxia currently going through the diagnostic process.

I don't know if he has been tested for Autism or Dyspraxia, but the two usually go together (Usually if a person has both the Dyspraxia is considered as part of the Autism). If he has none of the cognative traits of ASD then maybe it's possible that his sensitivity and problems are due to Dyspraxia alone?

I don't know much about your situation, but I hope this helps. :)
