Advice or Experiences with: Nappys/Pads issues with Severely Autistic Child

Hi there, I have been a member for a while but this is my first discussion post, so please bare with me. I desperately need some help. I have a 4 year old severely autistic son who wears incontinence pads. He has always worn nappys/pads due to no control over his bowels. We have started to have issues, where he takes his clothes off and then his nappy. This only happens when he is in his bedroom, during the night/early morning and has been going on now for at least 6 months. It is now becoming very frustrating for myself and my partner. This morning I awoke to find my son in his bedroom, with no nappy on and sitting on the floor eating it (this is new, only with nappy, we've had issues eating feaces). This is becoming quite a serious problem and it doesn't seem to bother my son. He finds it very hard to understand simple instructions and becomes frustrated. My son also has global development delay, an over-eating problem and has major speech issues. I'm really struggling with my emotions whilst looking after my son and feel like giving up hope. I was wondering if anyone has been through this nappy off/play/eat it situation, that could give me some desperate advice on what to do. I feel like this condition will never get better, especially his gut. What do I do? Can anybody help me, please? Thank you.

  • my son is also 4, is autistic and has nappy/undressing/poo issues!  we went through a lot of frustrating times and cleaning up before we discovered he can't undo poppers on "onesie" style pyjamas.  we used to get away with using the zip ones also but now he can undo a zip we only put these on him back to front (and cut off the feet if they have feet).  we also still dress him in all in one vests day and night as he can't undo these either!  however the ones we have are getting small so will have to think of something else pretty soon!

    hope this helps x
