Got diagnosis today

Well I'm in shock, had sons assessments today and they gave him the diagnosis of aspergers, we were told they would make a decision in Jan and we would know by February , but he scored so high in the tests they had no other options to discuss, he has a few other things they want to look into to do with speech and reading and something to do with processing images that they said where unusual for aspergers but wanted him to get his sticker now to help get support for school and college in September and sort the added bits out ASAP, got about 20 teachers and peds drs that I'd like to line up and say I told you so, to. He's 15 we have been questioning his traits etc since he was 5 but kept getting told to stop being neurotic and leave him alone, I hope there are a few people that through this take a bit more notice when a parent has concerns. Looking forward to a lovely quiet, stress free Christmas with my lovely family.

  • Hi R,

First of all thank you so much for replying to my post.

Secondly, I just cant believe the similarities between your son and my daughter with regards to no one wanting to listen, school etc.

They are the same age and to think we've both been trying for sooo long to basically be listened too.

I'm so pleased for you, finally you can get the help and the support needed for your son - even if late.  Its just a shame things werent put in place when he was younger.  Just as is the case with my daughter.

Even just today I've had the 'some children are quiet and want to be alone', 'she is just a very quiet girl, soo well behaved, she is a joy to teach', 'some dont like the noisy classroom atmosphere' ........ just had these very same statements when I contacted the school today about an issue with a few girls who just wont leave her alone and are wearing her down.... i mentioned that the hospital were writing to ask for a report on her social skills.  That was the replies i got when i said i've been raising concerns for at least 10 yrs.

I'm still not holding my breath for a result from all of this - if the school are adamant on glowing reports with shyness.

Anyway, sorry, this is your post.  I'm delighted you have the results and it will all be positive for you and your son from now on.  College will help him so much now.

best wishes to you and your family, have a wonderful Christmas xxx
