Dentist in Surrey-HELP

Hello,

I am trying to find a dentist in the Surrey area (but will travel anywhere, within reason) for my son. He hasn't been able to visit the dentist (for other health reasons) for many years and needs some teeth extracted.

I cannot seem to find anyone that understands that we need to take it slowly and do things bit by bit; son also has needle phobia.

If anyone out there has someone they'd recommend I'd be really grateful.

Thank you

  • Contact the dentist and see if they know of anyone who can help with this.
  • My dentist does administer gas so they must be one of these special dentists.

If your son needs specialist dental treetment due to him becoming over anxious, and stressed and your regular dentist cant meet those needs, shouldnt it be the dentist who refers on for more specialised treetment ? the other thing you could try is discussing the need for a specialist dentist with your doctor, who may also refer you to one

    good luck x.

  • hi, from my point of view we wd have preferred it if our usual dentist had been allowed to administer the gas, but that was ruled out a number of yrs ago on safety ground.  So, that's why the "specialist dentist" gets involved.  Think they must have a license, or something.

  • hi,

the dentust really is a tricky one. ive always managed to get my kids to the dentist, but anything beyond opening their mouth for a look has never happened, my dentist is very good, but my daughter wont allow them to do anything let alone give her a needle

. she needs some teeth removing and a brace. she will need to be asleep and i too was thinking that gas really would be the only option.i actually quite like crystals suggestion and may discuss this with my dentist.

  • hi -I'm not in Surrey but my son goes to a good dentist for check ups + will also accept a small filling as long as a needle isn't involved.  If he needs more work done on a tooth his dentist refers him to a practice that is "approved" to carry out treatments on patients who need that sort of service.  In my area it's about 20 mins in the car to get there.  There's another 1 in the opposite direction that takes about the same length of time.  It may be similar in Surrey.  He was referred this wk by his usual dentist because he wd have needed an injection to proceed with the filling.  I've been told the practice will contact me to discuss his needs.  As he won't tolerate a needle I'm going to ask if he can have gas, sensitively administered by wafting the mask near his face + nose until he gets drowsy + drops off.  I'm also going to say that if they put a needle in his hand after he's asleep to keep the sedation going that it must be removed asap once the treatment is completed.  I don't know if this is the way they'd do things.  I understand it may take a few wks for them to make contact.  But the upside is that they discuss it so we shd be able to sort something out which will work + won't be traumatic.
