Covid & autism assessment appointments

Hi

Does anyone know what is happening with autism assessment appointments in the midst of covid?

I ask because I am due to be seen in late summer for an autism assessment. I am worried that because of covid, my referral will get pushed back. I can't afford for this to happen because I am a uni student, and can't imagine it being easy for me to commute home (potentially multiple times) for my appointment

  • I'd suggest getting in touch with your GP or testing centre as soon as possible, even if just by email. I don't know the answer, but assuming it is pushed back you maybe able to transfer it to uni town.

How much is depending on diagnosis soon? If more practical it may be worth requesting it takes place next holiday?

  • I unfortunately can't transfer to my uni town as they stipulate that you can't simultaneously be under CMHT care and undergo autism assessment, but that idea about requesting it takes place next holiday is superb, and sure I will get in touch with my GP/the testing centre, thanks!

  • I was referred by my GP last June and saw a specialist at local hospital late August. They sai they thought I di have aspergers but cannot give diagnosis - have to refer to city hospital, which they did. I waited until February and then chased up as had heard nothing. Got told I'd slipped through net and wasnt even on waiting list but finding was secured. They then said I should get fast tracked, but I still haven't received appointment. I emailed the city hospital autism service and was just told everythings on hold due to Corona. Just a waiting game until services can resume. I would imagine it's much the same in different areas (I'm from Notts)

  • Thank you for this. And I'm sorry to hear how long you've had to wait :'(
