Does anyone else experience extreme itchiness that just switches on and drives you mad, normally in a specific location each time? It's so annoying and I don't know what to do about it.

Yes! I think it's when I'm starting to get sensory overload - I notice it tends to happen when I'm getting stressed or tired, and it's always worse when I'm wearing close-fitting or warm clothes, like denim or wool. I've found that getting into some loose, cool clothing (or even pyjamas) helps sometimes.
Hi,
I am in general an itchy person and I can't stand when there is an itch. It's usually a specific place on my head. Labels in clothing also make me itch like mad, but at least I can remove them. I itch a lot at night when trying to sleep.
I use body lotion to help calm the skin and minimise reasons for itches. There are some containing allantoin that help to relieve the cycle when skin has been scratched and then itches again. I also do an extra rinse for washing bed linen because detergent makes it worse.
But I think that the itch is not so much a topical thing on the surface but the nerves being hyper sensistive, or my nerves feel things in a physical way, like being annoyed through my skin. Someone only has to look at me a strange way and I instantly get itchy. And I can't put lotion on my head so easily as I have quite thick hair.
Normally, I know in the back of my mind that I just need to try to be calm, avoid being too warm and do relaxation. I try to hypnotise myself not to be itchy.
