ATOS assessment :-(

Hi,

Has anyone had any experience of being assessed by ATOS for work? I had a telephone appointment today and it was pretty awfull. They seemed to be just ticking boxes and trying to make me fit into their own prescribed criteria. They admited they knew little about Aspergers and have not seen my recent Aspergers diagnosis report. I can't see how they are qualified to report back to my employer if they have no actual insight into my situation.

At one point they were very patronizing and said that they thought 'i should be involved in the changes in work and not left in the naughty corner)'. !!!! I am aged 39 and and don't equate Aspergers with being naughty. By the end of the phonecall I had become so upset I broke down.

Although they said they wanted to support me I am very doubtful and very worried.

    Hi Goatworshipper, its occupational health for my workplace. The situation is that I am not being considered in the changes in work. And that I don't think I will be able to cope with the changes.

    I had no idea this awful company were involved in occupational health assessments. Has it been work absences that they're enquiring into or have there been work changes which have stressed you out and affected your performance?

    Hi Imp, thankfully I have only had about 3 days off work in ten years so they can't throw that at me. Its the changes that are proposed that seem so overwhelming.

     At the very moment when people should be questioning the systems we live under, all we get is austerity and disaster capitalism: file ATOS under the latter.

    I have to agree with that. The syetems are so wrong. Capitalism only 'works' if a certain paercentage of the population is struggling. The government has a very skewed logic. They say that everyone can work but then don't give people the support or confidence to find rewarding work that maximises their potential. In addition to the fact there arn't really enough jobs of any description, never mind ones that would mean you would be actually happy.

    My partner is going to contact ATOS about the attitude of the assessor and question them on their lack of insight (and usefullness). I wonder how much my employer is paying them to do something my boss could do himself?

    I am waiting for my diagnostic report from the doctor who is also going to do a letter aimed at my employer. Hopefully that will be helpful for both me and my employer. I think my boss was relying on ATOS for some insight and understanding....... dream on. I am realising how important self-advocacy is and how its up to me to educate myself and others.....that is daunting..
