dehydration

Is dehydration a common feature in the autistic community as a few days ago I realised I need to take some preventive actions as I getting dangerlously close to making myself ill, I have for 3 years struggled to drink enough fluilds throughout the day especially at work which is resulted in my body filling weak and it was only the other day when my body gave me the wake up call i needed. As i nearly passed out while on shift at work.

At the time it was thought that a short loss of supply of oxgyen to my brain which meant my brain started it shut down process and it was only when I got home went to the loo I realised that I was nearly severtely dehydrated.

So I was wondering if common and what does everyone do to make sure they are getting enough fluids especially if you like me hate water with a passion.

  • I find it very hard to drink enough water and yes work makes it impossible I just focus on the task at hand and that's it I don't even feel thirsty and until I'm reminded to take some water I don't drink I have gone fro 8:00am to 7:00pm without water and not noticed.

Quick question do you eat your food fast because I'm told I eat way too fast my Mrs tells me before every meal eat slow and I try but the foods gone before even a quarter has left her plate, has caused arguments too.

  • I think there is a lot to be said for awareness - I often don't notice I'm hungry or thirsty because I struggle to be aware of these things until the sensation becomes incredibly obvious. At this point I shovel because I'm only eating to refuel.
