Assessment tomorrow

Well, it's rolled around to assessment date. I'm meeting with a general paediatrician. Not sure what to expect. Will the assessment lead to a diagnosis or a referral to a specialist or will he be able to tell me there's nothing to worry about if she's not on the spectrum? I think my biggest worry is she has bits of different things (Aspergers/tourettes/OCD) that she isnt high on the scale of any one thing to be diagnosed but from my point of view, all three together albeit mild, are a problem (sigh). Really don't know what a general paed can diagnose. Also not sure what I want the result to be! A diagnosis I believe will be a positive thing as hopefully it will mean help won't be far away if dd needs it. A diagnosis of she's fine and not  ASD means she's my funny strange quirky lovable girl she has always been.

Does anyone know how far a general paed can go on the diagnosis side of things? We live in wales, maybe things are done differently in different areas? Oh we'll I suppose I'll know a bit more tomorrow. Nervous, worried, glad app is here and hoping for best for dd.

  • Ok, saw the gen paed today, he was stuck on the idea that my girl has Tourette's. originally went to the gp about this two years ago. The tics she had calmed down then disappeared. She has two that have come back since starting comp sept, no vocal only facial tics. They had gone for over a year so not sure if this can happen if its Tourette's? So I talked about the quirky stuff she does and my concerns and left with a diagnosis of mild Tourette's, with OCD and autistic traits. No tests, no questionnaire, nowhere for dd to go so I could talk to dr alone and express her behaviours fully! Because her behaviours aren't impacting school or home life (because I can happily live with her behaviours) no need for anything else! Only to get in touch if she or I become worried.

Really not sure if I'm pleased. Yes, dd happy that is my main concern so I suppose we just carry on from here and hope her symptoms do stay mild enough that she copes in school etc.

would be good to hear what other members think.
