Assessment tomorrow

Well, it's rolled around to assessment date. I'm meeting with a general paediatrician. Not sure what to expect. Will the assessment lead to a diagnosis or a referral to a specialist or will he be able to tell me there's nothing to worry about if she's not on the spectrum? I think my biggest worry is she has bits of different things (Aspergers/tourettes/OCD) that she isnt high on the scale of any one thing to be diagnosed but from my point of view, all three together albeit mild, are a problem (sigh). Really don't know what a general paed can diagnose. Also not sure what I want the result to be! A diagnosis I believe will be a positive thing as hopefully it will mean help won't be far away if dd needs it. A diagnosis of she's fine and not  ASD means she's my funny strange quirky lovable girl she has always been.

Does anyone know how far a general paed can go on the diagnosis side of things? We live in wales, maybe things are done differently in different areas? Oh we'll I suppose I'll know a bit more tomorrow. Nervous, worried, glad app is here and hoping for best for dd.

  • hi again - I don't think you worded it wrong.  Your rightly concerned about your mtg and there are so many unknowns that you're worried + thinking of all the possibles. When you get the diagnosis then that shd point you in certain directions you can pursue to help your child.  Look on it that way.  An accurate diagnosis is v important.  It shd enable you + you can enable your child.  Everyone reading your post will understand how you're feeling so don't worry about that.  It is a big deal.  Just take things 1 step at a time.....you don't have to rush into anything.  Give yourself time to adjust, keep coming to this site and other sites you may find useful.  You can't do everything at once, so be kind to yourself.  bw
