Not sure where to go next ?

Hi there i have a nearly 7 yr old boy who is having issues with communitcation ,also having tantrums etc 2 yrs ago he was assesed and was told there was nothing wrong with him .This week he started yr 2 and i have had an appt with teacher already she has had him 3 days and sees issues with his communication i told her what hes like at home and she thinks he is on the autisum spectrum ,His dad and i are no longer together but he doesnt think theres anything wrong , he has problems to so wondered if he cant see it or is in deniel . Im after any advice as sometimes he is so hard to deal with as i am at end of my tether . :(

  • I would push for a re-referral back to CAHMS. The school might be able to do this - speak to the SENCO, or go through your GP.

    Took my son referrals age 7, 14 and 17 before he got a diagnosis.  Keep pushing - the earlier you get it the easier it will be for both of you.

    It sounds like you have a teacher on your side which will be helpful. They see far more autistic children than parents do and can probably spot it a mile off. Ask her to suggest strategies whihc may help while you are waiting for the referrral.

    Try speaking to your local autistic society bracnh - they may be able to offer you some pointers to getting a diagnosis.

    Hope things get easier for you over the next few days. Take care of yourself - it can be tough if you are on your own.
