4 yr old daughter- social communication disorder?

Hi,

My 4 1/2 yr old daughter is undergoing assesment at the moment. She has just had her first pediatric appointment and we have recieved a letter sumerising what is happening.

She definately has problems and has also been diagnosed with hypermobility and is being refered to a physio. They also are going to do blood tests for 'fragile X chromosomes'

In the letter they refer to a possible 'social communication disorder'??? Are they talking about ASD/Autism or not? They want her to go for full assesment.

Anyone who can give me any further info on any of these would be great.

Thank you,

  • I'm not sure why she puts her hands over her ears... I used to think she had hypersensitive hearing, because even as a tiny baby she got hysterical in places that had a noise level louder than a whisper! And now she says to us its because 'its too noisy'  but she's also regularly making enough noise herself to give me a headache so I dont think it can be that.  I think she just wants to shut out the busyness of people around her, that she finds all the moving and the chatter and everything too much to process - it is very awkward walking down the street in town when  I can't hold her hand as she has them clamped firmly over her ears!
