teeth cleaning

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for alternatives to cleaning teeth with a toothbrush?

One of the people I have been asked to support has a real dislike of toothbrushes - he just hates the feel of a toothbrush in his mouth so hasn't been cleaning his teeth. I was wondering if anyone has had this experience before and what they did to resolve it?

Thanks

  • Abrasion on the gums, especially where the teeth interface with the gum, might be the issue. Heightened sensitivity to that could make brushing difficult. A nailbrush - goodness - sounds worse rather than a better solution. Using his finger with a gritty paste might work as well, followed by a gentle mouthwash. But it is worth exploring the individual's own perceptions - that is after all what is involved here, not the need to follow convention and use a brush because it is the done thing.

Gum sensitivity might also be due to disease due to not cleaning enough. Perhaps the advice of a dentist should be sought.

  • Yes, he will not accept any type of brush in his mouth. We think it is definitely the brush, rather than the idea of cleaning his teeth, as he will not use a nailbrush either.

  • hi - can I ask, is this aversion to any kind of toothbrush at all.  Children's size, adult's size, manual or electric?
