HELP PLEASE

Hi,

Since my daughter was 2.5 my husband and I have been trying to get help for her.  Today we finally started to get somewhere but I am left confused so some advice would be greatly appreciated.

The doctor at the hospital has discussed with us Autism and ADHD saying that generally the 2 go hand in hand.  He is going to speak to the school and we are going back to see him asap.

Does this mean she has these things as I cant believe he would be going to this trouble if that wasnt the case.

At this stage I am feeling confused we have been battling for this diagnosis for such a long time but I am still not sure if we actually have it or not!!

Your thoughts please.

    Thank you for coming back to me.  It was a consultant at the hospital we saw, he is now getting reports from the school and also started discussing with us forms of treatment so we are thinking he thinks it is likely!!

    This whole process has been 4 1/2 years long so far so I do not expect things to get any better from now on.

  • hey there emma,  i dont think this is a diagnosis as an autistic specialist diagnoses autism but i think the doctor is probably going to refer you to one, you can ask what he was thinking is the best thing to do now with these issues, as that way you at least have an idea what is going on rather than sitting in the dark

    it sounds like if he has mentioned them then hes taking the issue on board as a possiblity so i would expect he is already considering refering you, but i do think you should meet/phone him to ask him 

  • my son aged 11, having been diagnosed with ADHD and treated by three different child psychiatrists for the past two years, has now been diagnosed with Aspergers too. It is apparently quite common for the two to be present. Sounds like you're now getting some where with this doc, don't know how old your daughter is now but good luck with it from hereon, I deal with insurance claims on a daily basis so despite my lad regulalry making life pretty hard for all of us I'm constantly reminded to count my blessings. best wishes.
