  • Hi

It is hard enough getting your head around your child being given a diagnosis without all the confusion and unanswered questions you have been left with.

I am no expert, but they talked about my son having autistic traits before we had all the official assesments done.  I thought it was when they suspect they may be Autistic but have not yet done the assessments or are not sure.  I did not think you could get an actual diagnosis of "Autistic Traits".  I would consider that a description of the characteristics of Autism, where some traits may be present and some not.

I would go back to them for clarification.  Were there other agencies involved in making the diagnosis?  Unusual to be just Speech and Language making the decision??

Ask them if they expect the diagnosis to change and for information on it.  Also what are the next steps, where you can get support etc.  Hopefully it will clear the mud a little.

    Good luck.
