REMPLOY ?

Anyone with personal experience or knowledge of Remploy?

I was advised by the job centre to contact them regarding getting help with employment.

But so far, their website is an absolute pain to use.

  • Yes, I was a client of Remploy for a couple of years albeit before my diagnosis.

They are set up to and are familiar with dealing with people with disabilities.

I think it depends who you get as an advisor and where you live.

My first advisor was very good but she went off long-term sick and for ages I didn't have an advisor and when I got one he was not as good as my first advisor.

They try to arrange a six month (?) work experience placement for you but it depends what you are able to and want to do. I was living in Stoke at the time and basically if you wanted to work in retailing, cleaning, warehousing or security they could help you but if you were unable or didn't want to do these there was less chance of them finding a placement for you. They tried to arrange two placements for me but the first one fell through and I was unable to start the second one because my mental health deteriorated, not helped by not having an advisor for ages. (On the plus side it was telling them that I wasn't fit to start the placement and breaking down in tears that led eventually to my ASD diagnosis.)

I spent most of my time going in once a week and doing 2 hours of job hunting online. Not the most productive use of my time but I lived in the outskirts of Stoke and I was able to reclaim my travel expenses to their office so I got a day in the city centre out of it.

I also did a level 2 qualification in customer services with them while I was there.

Finally they pointed me in the way of a temporary Xmas job which I did for three years but I was told about it by someone else as well after Remploy told me so I would have done it anyway without them.

If you sign up with them you may not have to have as much dealings with the dwp while you are there as you would have if you don't sign up but this may depend on what benefits you are on.

    Hope this helps.
