Surrey support for adults with aspergers

Hi, my brother is 22 years old with an diagnosis of aspergers.

I was wondering if anyone knows about community support around the area of Surrey?

He really struggles with travel so ideally want support to help him be able to access services again.

  • Hiya Matt,

You may find this section on the NAS website useful, it all about the diagnosis process. www.autism.org.uk/.../diagnosis.aspx

    Hope this helps,

  • Hi I am a bit lost and stuck and wonder if anyone could help, I have been seeing psychologists since I was in primary school and no one could figure out what is wrong with me and have had a train wreck of a life. I have since been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, anxiety, and non epileptic attack disorder, my family members keep telling me to get tested for aspergers so I mentioned this to the mental health team when I see them last October and they said they would refer me to be assessed, well I thought it mite take a while for the referral to come through so waited untill after Christmas, I then asked my doctor to chase it up as I had not herd anything yet. See looked on the computer at the letter from the mental health team about my last visit and see it said about the referral but said they had attached the forms for the doctor to do, But the doctor was undable to open them so left a note for the receptionist to chase it up and call back in 10days, well I did and she could not find any note so apply for the forms and to come back in a week or so. So I called them 2 weeks later thinking that would be plenty of time,  and was told yet again there was no note or any trace of the forms they could not open. I did ask for her to double check and nothing apart from the original letter from mental health team saying about a referral to be test for aspergers.

I have read online I can refer myself but have no clue where to start, any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Matthew

  • Hi Rachelnc,

We have some resources for people to find support in their local area. Hopefully these will be helpful to you and your brother - Ross

You can search for services in your area on the Autism Services Directory:

www.autismdirectory.org.uk This includes services such as: support groups, social groups, advocacy, befriending, residential settings, outreach and respite.

You may also want to contact your local social services, if you are not already receiving help from them. Please take a look at the following articles for further information on getting help from Social Services:

    (Adult England and Wales)

    www.autism.org.uk/17377

Services provided by the National Autistic Society may also help, you can read more here:
