Problems in the workplace

Hello all!

I am looking for some advice on behalf of my brother, as I really don't have a clue what to do.

Long story really so bear with me.

My brother is 26, he started working part time in a local opticians over 2 years ago. He works in a lab preparing glasses; he works alone and the job is repetitive. He had the oppurtunity to make his own routine, set his own limits. It was a huge step for him (first job) and he adjusted really well. He gained a lot of confidence over time, and when someone left he chose to go full time.

Since then, he's struggled. There seem to be a lot of issues, but he can't open communication properly with the boss as to what he needs. I think they struggle with his attitude, how he manages his day and timekeeping. I believe they hav reached out to him to guide him but it doesn't seem to be helping. He has to do things his way.

It's getting so bad, they're making a case against him now. He came home and has shut down.

What does he do? Should his employers be doing more? Is there someone that can advocate for him on his behalf? This job really is a lifeline for him.

Thanks!
