Mental health social workers

Does anyone know what the role of a mental health social worker actually is? And are there any trained social workers for asd adults? If your social worker openly says to you they do not know enough to help you, can you request a social worker that does have knowledge?

I've experienced a few mental health social workers and without fail, all have been lazy and useless.  Some are personable enough and others are downright nasty, but even on the occasions you can extricate them from their lair, trying to get them to do anything helpful is a lost cause.  Based on past experience, I'd look elsewhere for help.  There are trained people within mental health, some of whom are very good, although trying to find one is an exercise in itself, especially after years of cutbacks.

I'm somewhat aware that (again) I've possibly come across as a bit shouty and negative and wonder if that's the best approach: I don't want to be overly discouraging, just to say that there are more productive avenues you might explore.  Hopefully you'll be able to find a local support group who can offer help: I think ours are quite good, but they prefer to use the phone and I... well, I don't!
