Hello,

My whole life I have felt different. I was diagnosed with ADHD at age 15/16. I turn 22 on June 27th. ADHD never seemed like the right thing for me. Today I went to my GP and explained stuff in detail, I went in with a hand written letter explaining what I feel like and how life is for me and she took that letter and said she would and she is sending off for a referral for Aspergers. I am quite an anxious person and I would appreiate it if someone else who has tried/ succesfully had an adult diagnosis would reply to this.

I was wondering how long or what happens how. She said I would recieve a letter in the post but as i said I am quite anxious to know the time scales as it would maybe help my mind settle slightly. As I said my whole life I have felt different and I am eager to try and get to the bottom of it.

I live in the North West of England, in Warrington. What time scales did you face from the moment you left the GP? and what happened after you got the letter?

    From initial referral to diagnose was around 11 months for me. I had 3 appointments before I knew I was accepted for diagnosis. Then I had over two hour session with mental health nurse and psychologist. I got on well with both, and they gave me a strong indication from the answers I gave them that I was on the spectrum. Was what I was expecting having researched it on line in the lengthy wait leading to the diagnosis. Since having the diagnosis, from further research and reading on this forum have been quiet shocked at how fundamental aspergers has affected me through my life.

    When I finished with the diagnostic service, the mental health nurse who had worked with me told me they had a surge of new applications. She didn't state why, but I think the exposure on tv over past year or so has raised awareness
