I need help finding a carer ASAP please.

Hello. I'm sorry. I'm not sure if I have put thospost in the right section.cannanyone tell me where I can find a carer to help with cooking, cleaning, shopping, going to appointments, e.t.c ?. I am having a lot of trouble finding one. I have aspergers syndrome, and live on my own in a flat. I am from Wigan in Lancashire. Thanks. Sorry for the spelling mistake. I am typing this on my phone, and it isn't working properly. I also have anxiety and depression, as well as Asperger's. My flat hasn't even been finished being fixed up uet. I have been on my own like this for three months now and desperately need a carer. I dont have any family support. And dobt ave any other support.

  • Have you tried your local council Social Services department? Despite the cuts most councils are providing teams that do jobs for those that need it. It is just that recognition of autism isn't great, and some council staff don't seem well briefed on autism and may turn you away.

    If that is happening contact your local ward councillor. Their details should be on the council's website under local democracy, find your local councillor or some such heading. They should help you (though some political persuasions aren't as good at it).

    Check whether there is a community advocacy service in your area. They should be advertised in GP surgeries or libraries where you should find a leaflet. They should be switched on to autism.

    There may be an equalities or community resource in W (the Mods may blank out the name). It'll be a place down a side street where there are some overworked community workers and meeting held for mothers & toddlers, learning disabled, gays or any other disadvantaged group. They can often put you right where to get help.

    Is there an autism parents group in you area, or a local NAS branch. The pink maps on the NAS home and community pages can help you find it. Though primarily aimed at parents of children on the spectrum, they can sometimes help. Also try Netmums - despite all the gripe that goes on - sometimes they can help.
