getting to interview stage

I recently applied for a job and disclosed my ASC on my application (including writing about how I see this as a positive thing for me in that particular role).  It is stated on the advert that all disabled applicants are guaranteed an interview should they meet all essential criteria.  I have been informed that I have not been shortlisted, which I don't understand as surely I should be given an interview.  On one hand I don't want an interview if there is no chance of getting the job, but on the other I feel like this may be discrimation as I do fit all the criteria.  Perhaps there were more suitable applicants and they didn't want to waste my time, but it seems strange that it is stated that interviews will be given when one was then not offered to me.

  • If it says you are guaranteed an interview if disabled and fit all the criteria, it sounds like you have a right to ask for an explanation.

For example are they treating autism as if it is mental health rather than disability, as if they could do that with mental health - but the point being - you could ask if they took account of an asc as a disability.

Disabled people do tend not to protest, and part of disability discrimination is the widespread acceptance of discrimination for want of standing up to it. They may be hoping you wont make a fuss.

I don't think there is any harm in simply emailing to ask why you weren't guaranteed an interview, given your declared disability and the fact you appear to fit all their criteria - simply that....and see what you get back.
