How do I learn more

Hello Everyone

I'm looking for advice please, I'm working in an environment where I am coming into contact with children 0-5 who have special needs/Autism, can anyone recomend what books to read or any weekend courses/online learning that I can do to try and understand more about Autism as I want to try and learn more about Anxiety levels etc and how to calm and reassure a child.  I am based in Lincolnshire.

Thank you in advance for any help or advice

  • 0-5 though is a tricky age for comparisons of that kind. The only book I can think of as it applies to primary school age in part, and therefore not that far removed, is "Martian in the Playground - understanding the schoolchild with asperger's syndrome" by Clare Sainsbury.

The trouble is most books re under 5 are too technical. And the autism may not be obvious, or appear very different from teenage or adult manifestations at that age. Before 5 there may not be the same kind of social interactions, and more of the evidence is in relation to parents and other adults, or conflicts in nursery school
