I know, its terribley sad,such a huge lack of knowledge on the Autistic spectrum.
I can't see the problem really. The guy likes collecting stuff, he's got an interest in guns, he doesn't hide that fact, he is open with others about what he's got, he hasn't used them in any crime nor did he intend to. OK, he should have been more careful about security, but he probably thought that as he had no intention of doing harm with them, he didn't need to.
I think it would have been better to give him a collector's permit, ensured proper secure storage, made sure his guns were de-activated, and let him alone. He's done no real harm, affected no-one, and been brutaly sent to prison for a crime that I don't understand, let alone him. It'll be torture for him, and that's cruel.
