How Can I Get a Job With No References Whatsoever?

I'm stuck.

I need a job, preferably part time, and could really do with getting a job within the next few months, and preferably sooner rather than later.

But I really do have no references at all, whatsoever.  And I don't just mean from former employers.  I really do mean no references at all, whatsoever.  Whether it's character references, references from teachers, etc, references from upstanding members of the community, I really have no references.

I'm already looking into volunteering.  I'm already looking into returning to education.  I'm considering self-employment.  But, here, in this post, I'm asking specifically about how I might get a job when I really don't have any references.

Does anyone have any ideas or pointers, please?

  • Thanks, asparagus.  I don't have any alternative references, as I've not been involved in anything for years.  There are no health or medical people I could really ask, either, as I haven't been seeing anyone like that enough (yet).

I'm getting started with some things that could lead to references.  And I'm still looking at volunteering.  But, in the meantime, I still want to find a part time job, if I can, even though I have no references.

While I understand the logic of getting involved in stuff (volunteering, a course, etc), getting references that way, and then applying for jobs, I do have the significant practical problem of what to do about living costs in the meantime.  (Benefits aren't really an option.)  So that's why I'm wondering how I might be able to get a job without references.
