Moving within the UK

Hi everyone,

we are thinking of moving within the UK to a different county.

My child has a SEN since pre-school and is moving to secondary school with an attached ASD unit soon. He is entitled to full time support. He is maturing well and within the average range of development for his age group.

I would like to know if anyone has experience of making such a big (for us anyway!) change and what worked. I am particularly concerned about his SEN Statement as this is county specific. As he is in year 6 the new EHC plan cannot be implemented for this Annual Review, we will have to wait until his transition is complete to set new targets next year - or so we've been informed. I would like to highlight how content we are with his provision so far & we are reluctant to jeopardise his development due to patchy services available within a district, never mind different counties.

I searched the internet for any information but could find nothing relevant.

I have heard negative accounts of parents deciding to home educate following a move as placements are planned in advance of "regular" transition & there are just not enough places for ASD children in suitable placements.

Any shared experiences/suggestions would be appreciated.

P.S. We are considering moving from the S.E to the far N.E. of England.
