  • I hated fireworks as a child too - this must be common in ASD?. I screamed and screamed as a little girl when taken to the fireworks at school. I hated (and still do) the unexpected nature of the noise more than the noise itself; it is the fact that I can't control the noise and that it takes me by complete surprise. I still won't go to firework displays, and I hate going out at night when there are fireworks on. Again, it is the whistling bit that is the biggest bugbear, an awful noise that sends shivers down my spine. Fireworks are fun to watch from inside the house where they do not bother me too much, but they are way too loud when outside.

Sorry, can't think of any advice, but it is likely that your son will improve with time as I have done.
