Work Experience

We have got to arrange my sons work experience.

I am very dubious as understandably new situations throw him. His school have suggested that he goes to a local insurance company. I feel this would be a bad choice for him. He is fixated on doing something that is relevant to his future. Does anybody know if there are either resources for supporting children in to work experience, or just a little bit of advice on what to do for the best?

  • Not sure the area you live, but Connextions used to help teens with SEN.

This changed to Youth employment service (YES) in my area, but I'm not sure if that's national.

Another avenue is Access to Work, But they have had a lot of bad press and my experience of them has not been at all positive. Should be renamed 'Lack of Access to Work' in my opinion.

What does your son want to do?
