Haircut needed!!

Hi,

My son is nearly 3 and hates having his hair touched, washed, brushed etc.  I've tried cutting it when he's asleep but I'm not a hairdresser and it's beginning to look like a bowl cut.  I live in Egham, Surrey and wondering if anyone knows of any hairdressers with experience of autism?

Thanks

Natalie

  • And the little bits of hair stuck in your clothes and on your skin afterwards, they felt like bits of steel wire! A change of shirt right after the haircut would be a way to avoid that.

Haircuts were always traumatic when I was little but I can't really remember it very well. Recently I've found that some barbers seemed to have combs that were unbearably scratchy and sharp! It's really down to how careful the hairdresser is with their tools etc. A home visit sounds like a good idea, perhaps the hairdresser can do your hair first so that he deosn't feel singled out?

  • Hi

When small I also hated to have my hair touched. It actually hurt. Perhaps your son is the same.

You may find a mobile hairdresser who can come to your home, will be patient and will cut your son's hair without washing it first. You may find he doesn't mind clippers as much as cutting with scissors, there's less need for hands to touch the head. And apologies if you already  know all this.
