[Content warning: discussion of rape and sexual assault] –Russel Brand, GUILTY

Of rape and sexual assault, has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on Monday, to what the judge called a significant prison sentence. The Met have said they have to further cases against him that are before the CPS.

I really hope this case shines a light on the men who think they're entitled by fame to abuse any woman they choose.I hope the person who's currently asking the courts to stop him being named as a sexual abuser, because he might "try and kill himself" if named, gets told, no and that freedom of the press matters and that the women he's alledged of assaulting can have their day in court after a full and thorough investigation.

This comes on top of TWO cases currently before the courts of men accused of drugging their wives, raping them, photographing and filming them and asking other men to come and do the same.

I think Madam Pelicot has opened the floodgates on the amount of depravity some men are capable of. Apparently its quite a common fantasy among men, to want to have sex with an unconious woman!

  • I'm very glad you posted this,   - I've only just seen this thread. It's not only about this horrible man, but the fact BBC, Channel 4 and other 'reputable' organisations ignored or brushed off similar behaviour - this is by far not the first time. There is defnitely a culture of denial and closing ranks about vile misbehaviours among people considered sacred cows or bulls [ie by dint of wealth, fame, power etc]. It will take a long time as it needs cultural and organisational changes.

I'll come out now myself: I was sexually assaultedd 4 times in my life - twice as a child, twice as an adult, the last one a rape. I didn't tell anyone because I thought no one would believe me and it felt shaming. I felt, for the first 3, it was to do with me, but the last was my ex. whom I divorced - he got divorced 3 times over several years, hitting his wives. I tried many times to tell someone over the decades, but as there was no 'evidence' it seemed futile. Over time the shame turned to anger, which drove me to self develop and gain confidence. Every time I hear news about people like Brand it makes me feel sick and angry for the women. I am so glad they were brave and came forward, far from an easy thing to do.

  • Agree with profdanger. I'm glad you feel able to share that here. There must be so many other people who have had similarly awful experiences and are never able to tell anyone, let alone report it to the police.

Marianne, I understand that even with anonymity that is not an easy thing to disclose. I appreciate and respect your openness. I am so sorry that not only has that happened to you, but you had to experience such abuse on multiple occasions. That is awful and I am glad to hear that in spite of the actions of others you have gained confidence since then. I wish you the best moving forward.
