Confused!

I'm a newby and don't get how to post in an already set up post box, so I've resorted to a new one!!

65 years ago today, I entered (not by my choice) into a world in which I don't belong

  • I haven't a clue how this works, but thank you for your kind welcomes and the great Avatars!  After years of this, that and the other - a whole list of 'diagnoses', I'm hoping that identifying that I am autistic and ADHD makes so much sense.  These things were unknown, or unrecognised in my era.

Anyway, what I want to ask is for information and direction in how to cope with certain situations, activities and such.  Everyday things are challenging - shopping, housework, disorganisation and 'losing' things are a nightmare.  I don't know how to 'join in' on conversations - unable to express myself and, as such often saying the 'wrong' thing; topics of no interest to me ... The thing is that others don't understand how my mind works but, equally I don't understand how other peoples minds work.  Things that make total sense to me leave others confused and things that make total sense to others leave me confused!

I'm a research addict (comes with the territory) and have found some great resources.  I was wondering whether, if it's allowed, I could post some of the things I have found useful which may help others.  Some YouTube stuff and at least one book.  I would be so grateful if anyone could give me some advice on coping.

    Thanks

  • 'losing' things are a nightmare

I know what you mean! I try to have a set place for a thing and keep a spreadsheet of where the various things in my house are kept. If I put down my glasses, I try to make sure I will only put them in one of two places, as they're so difficult to find if I don't stick to that.

    shopping, housework, disorganisation

I found a wonderful small free programme online that means I can stick reminders into it and tell each reminder how frequently to pop up. For example, when to change my bed, when to change the towels - even a reminder to wash and have a shower. Without that, I'd be lost and incapable.

I don't know how to 'join in' on conversations - unable to express myself and, as such often saying the 'wrong' thing; topics of no interest to me

I think most of us struggle with that one, so you're not alone.

If you want to post something that interests you, why not start a separate thread about that thing? If others are interested, they'll join in. You can post different threads for different subjects.
