Participants wanted: Do you self-identify as autistic?

Note: This account only posts external research that has been approved by the NAS research team.

Research background

My name is Lucy, and I'm a Trainee Clinical Psychologist at Bangor University. I'm currently recruiting participants for my doctoral research exploring the experiences of adults who self-identify as autistic but haven't received a formal autism diagnosis.

I'm particularly interested in how people come to recognise and understand themselves as autistic, what autistic identity means to them, and how this relates to their decisions about whether or not to seek a formal diagnosis.

Who can take part?

I'm looking for adults who:

  • Are aged 18 or over and live in the UK
  • Identify as autistic or feel that autism fits their experiences
  • Have not received a formal autism diagnosis
  • Are not currently undergoing an autism assessment

What's involved?

Taking part involves a one-to-one online interview via Microsoft Teams, lasting approximately 60-90 minutes, where you'll be invited to share your experiences and perspectives.

Reimbursement

Participants will receive a £20 voucher as a thank-you for their time.

I'm hoping this research will help improve our understanding of the experiences of self-identifying autistic adults, whose voices are often underrepresented in autism research.
