Research background
Researchers from the University of Liverpool, led by Dr Caroline Hands, are exploring how adults come to identify as autistic and the role of social media, online information and other sources in this process.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for adults aged 18 or over who live in the UK, can understand English, and identify or self-diagnose as autistic, or are questioning whether they may be autistic, without a formal autism diagnosis, (this includes people who are now formally diagnosed but previously may have self identified as autistic).
What does taking part involve?
Taking part involves completing an online questionnaire, which covers topics such as information sources that are helpful or less helpful in giving information about autism, your reasons for seeking (or not) a formal clinical diagnosis and your views about self identifying as autistic more generally. At the end of the survey there is the option to express an interest in a follow-up Microsoft Teams interview lasting up to one hour. The study does not provide an autism diagnosis, but participants will be asked to complete a autism questionnaire (CATI-R) which is sometimes used as part of the diagnostic process.
Reimbursement details
Participants will not be paid but may enter an optional prize draw for one £30 voucher or one of two £10 vouchers.
