I'm new here, undiagnosed autistic mum of three autistic adult children. My eldest (29) got her own diagnosis two years ago. My middle child (25) was diagnosed ten years ago. My youngest (24) is autistic and has various issues with stiff joints and insomnia. He has not been diagnosed. My problem stems from the fact that my middle child is severely autistic and cannot be left in the care of anyone else as it causes him so much distress which can result in epileptic seizures/severe and prolonged anxiety for months. We are housebound due to his extreme agoraphobia and social anxiety. My youngest is not as severely limited but is unable to travel alone or articulate/advocate for himself so I would need to be present for any assessments/appointments. Has anyone experienced this situation and if so is there any advice you can give on how to navigate getting one child diagnosed when another child requires full time care? I am obviously going to contact my GP surgery and request their advice but any lived experience you could share would be much appreciated. My middle child required countless appointments just to get his autism and epilepsy diagnosis and there is no way that could happen this time. It feels like the only way round this situation is for me to be in two places at once. Getting my youngest son his diagnosis for autism and his other medical issues and therefore access to the benefits he is entitled to feels like an incredibly difficult challenge but surely there must be others out there in the same situation?
