The Autistic Achievement Rulebook

Just quoting myself here from the 'Self Worth' thread:

'There is also the question of life achievements/stages eg. degree, career, buying a home, marriage, having children.

If we don't 'achieve' these stages, I think that can unfairly affect our sense of self worth.'

We say we haven't achieved the usual life stages but maybe they need to be different for us because we aren't so likely to just fall into those particular 'achievements'.

We can make our own.  Re-write the 'achievement rulebook'.

So, what do you see as an achievement for yourself in the light of your autism?

Or what do you think is an achievement generally for us autistic souls?

I will start with connection - I have connected quite profoundly I think with animals, insects and trees.

  • I'm not sure that I totally understand the question. Are you asking what I think I've achieved due to my autism no matter how niche it is? Or are you asking what I've achieved despite being autistic so like normal achievements but that are more difficult with autism.

    More the former than the latter but whatever comes to mind is fine.

    So what is your achievement irrespective of conventional society's expectations.

    I know more about Harry Potter than the majority of humans.

    I can solve a Rubik's cube.

    I built a pretty epic Hogwarts castle using modular sets and some bricks/minifigures from other sets that reconstructed lots of the scenes from Harry Potter.

    I have twice got wordle in 1 (admittedly that was probably a lot more to do with luck than autism but I still like it as an achievement)

    I have taken some pretty good animal photos. The amount I've taken is probably some sort achievement in itself. But sometimes I have a mission to take a shot of something in particular and I see each or these as an achievement in its own right.
