Self worth

Where do you think this comes from?

Background?

Education?

Wealth?

I suspect it's more subtle than these sorts of things, but I do note that people from certain backgrounds can appear much more self confident than others, and confidence can get you far in life.

I've lack confidence and a sense of self worth for much of my life but I do think that feedback has helped me and that has mainly been from being loved (always outside the family) and being told that my characteristics are appreciated.

There is also the question of life achievements/stages eg. degree, career, buying a home, marriage, having children.

If we don't 'achieve' these stages, I think that can unfairly affect our sense of self worth.

What do you think?

  • I think at school expectations were placed on us, for many it was a lack of expectations if you were from a poorer background.
I’ve actually had said to me, “you could have gone much further if you had tried harder.” For many of us, we are trying our hardest, it just takes twice the amount of energy to achieve the same results. It’s also true some things are easier than neurotypical people find them, I’ve driven engineers mad before because I can cut something out of sheet steel without measuring it,

Society is still very much, ‘one size fits all,” it’s just assumed the order is, school, job, car, marriage, house, family, old age and then the next person does the same.
I have always felt I’ve underachieved, I’ve also seen people overtake me in life, they seemed confident and were able to actually bluff their way through life. I now count myself a lucky, I didn’t end my life and now know why I’m different, I am enough and not a  second choice.
