I've been clearing out my friends stuff from what was his room, I didn't realise the extent of his hoarding, until I started opening drawers and cupboards, everywhere is packed full of stuff, much of it is rubbish. He dosen't want me to get rid of anything, to the point where I nearly told him I'd give him all the crud out of the vacumn cleaner. Dementia's such a horrible thing, the person I knew has gone, but the body survives, I want to respect him and his stuff, but I'm finding myself having to make desicions for him about what to keep and what to get rid of, his son wants me to make these desicions too as he's overwhelmed and not here to make them.
Theres a lot of moving parts to all this, first I've got to get my friends furniture moved to a storage unit, and the carpet up, before the electrician can come in and repair the electric cables under the floor. Then I will need a plumber to do the en-suite, it feels an overwhelming amount to organise and one that I can't control and plumber round here are like hens teeth.
I'm starting to think of what I will do with the room once I get it back, it will need totally redecorating the en-suite fixing, maybe a new window, flooring etc. One of its functions will be as a spare bedroom, thats fairly easy, but I'd like to make it a sewing room too and for that I need a new sewing machine.I think my old one was not strong enough to do the things I wanted, like sewing thicker fabrics such as cord. It was making nests for itself for ages and apparently this is a symptom of the bobbin mechanism being sheared and broken.
I've been looking at models and theres a Janome 725S one that they use on sewing bee, that about £300 to buy, but its sturdy and copes with things like corduroy, fleese and woollen fabrics as well as thinner cottons and linens. But I'm still thinking £300 is a massive amount of money if I don't get on with it, does anyone have any any experience they can offer about sewing machines in general and dressmaking in particular?
Another problem I'm having is fabrics, the little shop on the island is owned by a nasty snearing man who seems to like to be unhelpful and most of the fabric he sells is for crafting rather than dress making. I've looked online and found some fabric, only the colours look unreliable, there one that says it's terracotta, but looks a mucky brown on the screen, this place has some nice fabrics but don't do samples. As they're in Wiltshire going there isn't an option. Does anyone have any experience with this?
