I am wondering about trauma being stored in the body. Autistic individuals will experience trauma for different reasons as the predominant neurotype, as well as for the same reasons. Aspects which may contribute to a hindering of the healing process could be alexythymis, masking and communication differences. But one thing I've been thinking about is how trauma is dealt with in our modern western world, in particular the UK. I can't speak for anywhere else. We have talking therapies, alternative therapies such as mindfulness and conventional treatment such as medication. Of course its an individual matter and these things will help, but maybe they will only get one so far. Are we not missing out on physically releasing trauma which the body has stored, often for many years? In other cultures or times gone by this might have involved drumming, singing, dancing etc. Usually a collective act to help the person heal. Our society is so individualised and separated now, whether it happens on its own or collectively in a group - opportunity and space for this physical release is something which we potentially have lost. And I dont mean doing exercise, I mean intentional release.
