Overstimulation

Hey! I'm sorry if this has been posted before but I just wanted to know what your personal overstimulation looks like. I'm not entirely sure if I actually do get overstimulated or not. It can be hard to tell sometimes. For example, last night I was out drinking with my partner and suddenly I felt really sick and everything was too much (the only way to describe it). I went outside, and instantly felt okay again. I'm not sure if that could be linked or if that's just me having an upset stomach.

What is it like for you?

  • Could be like that. Can also be much more subtle for me. I often get irritated and snappy or just zone out. It gets near impossible to follow conversations and I need so much more time to process any information.

  • I shared a flat years and years ago in the 1970's with three other people who were a bit younger than me (I was 25 at the time) and I found I wasn't on their wavelength in that when they said something I needed to process what was said and kind of analyse it to make what I thought would be a sensible reply. The trouble was, I found, that by the time I had a reply ready, they'd often moved on to something else which I found frustrating because I was expecting a bit more from the conversations. I guess it was just them doing small talk but it seemed a waste of energy to me and I would have been happier talking about a subject that we both had an interest in and could have a good chat about.
