Government announcement today that we should stock up on food etc

Here is the BBC article:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp931m8n3p5o

Besides extreme weather events there is the danger of cyber attacks and warfare.

We are very far in the UK from self reliance, as a country/set of countries.

I've heard of 'preppers' - people who have already stocked up a great deal of supplies for the event of extreme conditions - often in the US.

There are also people who own bunkers.

This thread is to share ideas about:

1.  Whether you will actually do anything

2.  If so, what will you stock?

and any other comments about the situation, which is the first I've experienced like this in my lifetime.

I am thinking back to my parents generation and WW2, rations etc.

  • Something very practical than nobody has mentioned here is water purification tablets.

In the event of a sustained water outage you can use it to make less sanitary water drinkable (eg rainwater from a barrel). It will taste a bit funny but if it is down to a situation where you have finished your last bottle of Champaign and there is nothing left then it can save your life.

The shelf life is probably in terms of years and it takes up little space.
