Government announcement today that we should stock up on food etc

Here is the BBC article:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp931m8n3p5o

Besides extreme weather events there is the danger of cyber attacks and warfare.

We are very far in the UK from self reliance, as a country/set of countries.

I've heard of 'preppers' - people who have already stocked up a great deal of supplies for the event of extreme conditions - often in the US.

There are also people who own bunkers.

This thread is to share ideas about:

1.  Whether you will actually do anything

2.  If so, what will you stock?

and any other comments about the situation, which is the first I've experienced like this in my lifetime.

I am thinking back to my parents generation and WW2, rations etc.

  • Excellent.

    Well done.

    Thank you for sharing.

    1 packet dark chocolate

Would last 10 seconds under my bed.

My stores are in the loft.

  • Actually, chocolate’s an excellent idea. Not only is that a great source of quick energy, but that could be an immensely rewarding feeling when hope seems lost.

I recently read a young adult novel depicting what it would be like if the moon suddenly came closer to the Earth (sorry, obsessed with everything moon-related lol). Short story: The world’s weather goes nuts immediately and practically everyone dies within a year. It’s kind of sad how chocolate plays a part in the story, but it definitely convinced me that a bag of chocolate chips is a survival must-have lol.
