Government announcement today that we should stock up on food etc

Here is the BBC article:

Besides extreme weather events there is the danger of cyber attacks and warfare.

We are very far in the UK from self reliance, as a country/set of countries.

I've heard of 'preppers' - people who have already stocked up a great deal of supplies for the event of extreme conditions - often in the US.

There are also people who own bunkers.

This thread is to share ideas about:

1.  Whether you will actually do anything

2.  If so, what will you stock?

and any other comments about the situation, which is the first I've experienced like this in my lifetime.

I am thinking back to my parents generation and WW2, rations etc.

  • I'm not really worried about it tbh. Its all alarmist and a bit scaremongering. One of my special interests is studying the cold war and all through that people were being told to stockpile, getting trained to hide under desks or in baths if the 4 minute warning happened etc.

I suppose the only difference this time is the possibility of a crippling cyber attack that shuts down essential services. But even then I think a full one is unlikely
